Post subject: Safari Scripts - GUI scripting beta?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>lang>applescript (more info?)

http://www.apple.com/applescript/safari/

has a collection of scripts for Safari, many of which require the installation
of a beta of GUI scripting. (other places linked to this page have other iApps
mentioning User Interface scripting, but call it UI scripting, not so graphic)

The links to the GUI Scripting Beta software is a few pages of educational
content, but no downloadable beta. Unless the actual beta is merely activated
by enabling access to assistive devices in Universal Access.

Is that it? Flipping a switch in Universal Access? Or is there a beta that
only Developers have access to?

Or is it a combination of PreFab UI Browser and UI element Inspector?
http://www.prefab.com/uibrowser/
http://www.apple.com/applescript/uiscripting/downloads/uiinspector.dmg

The pages themselves seem to loop... bad links? Work in Progress? This all
seems terribly similar to the stuff that they may have had to shut out of
Safari due to Chicken Little security warnings, so maybe it is a bit of
orphaned content on Apples site.

Any clues?

I just want to use a couple of the scripts in the package that require the Gui
Scripting beta.

If you have Panther, you don't need the beta release -- a final version
is in Panther.

And if you have Jaguar, you're SOL unless you can find someone who has a
copy of the beta to send you.

And if you're pre-Jaguar, you're just plain SOL, because it doesn't
support GUI scripting at all.

So the scripts, that require the GUI scripting beta, should work if installed.,
right? Thanks.

I thought the pages may have been outdated, but they also seemed to talk of
being current with panther to some degree.

Also, something happened while reading those pages, and poking around at that
which could be poked, perhaps a javascript, that placed Address Book as a
folder in Safari's menu bar. However, I cannot seem to remove it... it isn't
shown in bookmarks like the Javascript code is.

That's a Safari preference in the "Bookmarks" section, just uncheck all
3 that pertain to Address book.
