Kicks ass (as we don't say in the UK). Best new feature is that
it maintains a list of the applications you want to script and
will show the dictionary for any of them with just one click.
So you don't need to wait for the lengthy process of compiling
a list of scriptable applications each time you want to consult
a scripting dictionary.

But it appears to be OS X only -- what about those with older machines?

I assume that you mean older Operating Systems.

Apple has ceased development on OS 9; any changes to it will fall under
either of the following categories:

1. To ensure or improve compatability as the Classic environment under
OS X.

2. Bug fixes--and those will probably be rolled in to category 1
releases.

They continue to use the Script Editor they have. What else would you
expect? Apple isn't going to produce new software for OS 9.

I doubt there will be any such releases. I think they've already fixed
just about everything that they're willing to consider a bug, and that's
common/important enough for them to care. Most of the major software
with plans to develop for mac is on board with X at this point, so my
guess is that apple will drop 9 and classic the next time a
compatibility issue requires a rewrite.

Have a look at Smile:

Works with 8. 9 and X. Just choose the version you need.
